This is not a rumor anymore and it seems that Facebook and General Motors have taken this quite seriously.

In order to use Facebook integration with your car you'll have to connect your phone to General Motors OnStar System via Bluetooth and you're good to go. Thanks to this integration, your car can read Facebook updates to you or even incoming SMS. This makes it relatively safe to use while driving.
