Originally released all the way back in 1993, Myst [99] was the best selling PC game of all time until The Sims stole that title in 2002. If you had a computer with a CD-ROM drive in the mid-90's, chances are you've played Myst.

If for some reason you haven't, or this era of PC gaming is before your time, here's the gist- Myst is a first person puzzle-centric exploration game set in a pre-rendered 3D world which was absolutely breathtaking to behold when it was originally released. It's entirely tap-driven to move around and fiddle with the various in-game widgets to solve puzzles and progress through the game. For more details, check out Arn's eloquent reflection on the game from back when it was originally released.

For 99, this is a blast from the past you shouldn't miss.

As you might have read, Google is planning to release a new version of Google TV, and according to the latest news, Google is determined to bring Android OS to our TV screens. But in addition to this, Google is working on another project called Android TV.

News says that Android TV is different from Google TV and the company behind Android TV is Geniatech. This device is actually a small set top box that will run Android 2.2 on your TV via HDMI. As for the hardware specs of Android TV it will use Amlogic 1GHz Coretex A9 CPU, 512MB RAM, and 2GB of internal memory. If you need any additional space, there's a SD memory card slot that can support up to 32GB of storage space. There's also a USB port so you easily connect USB hard drive as well. As for connectivity, the Android TV boasts WiFi / Ethernet to bring you digital TV, internet TV as well as support for web browser, multimedia player, IM, and many apps from the Android Market.

Android TV sounds like a decent gadget, but is it really necessary? We'll keep everyone updated with further news once available.

Combine two cups of freemium with a scoop of time management. Then add a dash of social, mix it together, and you'll get MobCrete's Pucca's Restaurant [Free], the freemium game that's currently devouring my spare time.

Pucca is a massive media franchise that spans animation, console games, fashion lines, and a lot more. If you know absolutely nothing about it (like me!), you'll still find Pucca's Restaurant to be an adorable restaurant sim. If you're a fan, you'll see all your favorite characters come together to help take your restaurant from a tiny diner to an opulent five-star affair.

There are likely hundreds of freemium sim games on iOS, so I'm not going to claim that Pucca's Restaurant is the best or most unique. I can, however, tell you that it's a lot of fun, and I can't stop playing. There are a few things I look for in a freemium game, and this one stacks up well. I never feel like I absolutely need to pay for currency, I'm not missing out by choosing not to harass my friends, and there's always lots to do.

To take your restaurant to a five-star destination, you'll need to manage meals, staff and decor. Cooking meals earns you money and experience, so you can unlock new recipes and items as you level up. You can use those items to decorate, drawing in more customers and earning more stars. As your restaurant gets more popular, you'll need more staff to cook and serve the food.

There's a slight time management flavor to Pucca's Restaurant, as you'll need to plan your dishes carefully to make sure there's always something ready to serve. You also have to make sure your meals don't go bad before you serve them. Decorating feels a bit like Animal Crossing, which is a game that desperately needs more iOS imitation. And hey, if you want some educational content, each dish you can cook in the game includes a full recipe.

I'm really loving the social content. I'm usually wary of letting games use my location data, but I'm glad I threw caution to the wind for this one. Not only is there a Yelp-style list of restaurant ratings, you can also check out a local map and rate your shop against everyone nearby. Or you can travel around the world and check out the top rated international restaurants. Pucca's Restaurant has only been out for a couple weeks here, but it's been around since March in parts of Asia, so you can see lots of crazy-awesome high level restaurant layouts and they're all different. You can also check out the restaurants of your Game Center friends.

There are a few items you can't get for your restaurant without using Garu points, the premium currency of the game. You earn Garu points for hitting milestones and unlocking secret rewards, but they don't show up often enough to cover every possible purchase. I haven't had any problem going without, though, and my little restaurant is certainly remaining competitive. I am, however, completely mystified about why saving progress to the cloud costs Garu points. You'd think making sure players never lose progress would be valuable enough on its own.

My biggest gripe is that Pucca's Restaurant badly needs a tutorial. I muddled my way though the first few levels, and eventually figured out how to store decor, how to move things around, why I want new staff, but it was a struggle early on. Apparently a tutorial is on the way in the next update, and so far MobCrete has been quick to bring out bug fixes and new content. You can also hit them up in our forums.

If you've got room in your heart for a new freemium game, give Pucca's Restaurant a try. It's super cute, it's fun, and it's free. Is there a better recipe for success?

When HTC launched the Desire and the aluminum bodied HTC Legend, it created two of the most popular Android devices in the market. So much so that Google basically took the HTC Desire and named it the Nexus One ie the first Google phone. Fast forward to 2011 and we have the successor to the original Desire ie the Desire S. Is it still as 'desirable' as the original? Read on the FoneArena HTC Desire S Review to find out!

Hardware

Coming from the impeccable construction of the new Nokia devices , I was pleasantly when I first held the HTC Desire S in my hand. The aluminum build feels great in the hand and makes the device quite a looker too. The back of the device is part aluminum and part soft plastic. The split three part design looks nice and actually is useful as the lower plastic panel can be removed to replace the battery , insert SIM card and put in a memory card as well. Point to be noted is that changing the memory card requires the battery flap to be opened and this will shut off the phone.

The rear of the phone also sports the 5MP camera along with an LED flash , a speaker grille. The front of the Android smartphone has the 3.7" S-LCD screen , four capacitive buttons , the earpiece grille and a front facing camera. The screen is of the SLCD variety which has excellent contrast levels and looks absolutely delightful. It might not have the absolute black levels of SAMOLED but we didn't miss that much. On the other hand, sunlight visibility was pretty bad. In comparison to the CBD screen on the Nokia E7, the SLCD fared quite badly and was almost invisible in bright sunlight. This is especially a problem in a country like India and if you spend a fair bit of time outside. The screen is of course covered by the famous Gorilla Glass and remains fairly free of scratches even when placed in a pocket with keys and coins.

The capacitive buttons are a bit of a hit or miss. The buttons work as advertised along with the appropriate haptic feedback but the backlight did play spoil sport a few times. This is obviously a problem if it fails to light up in a dark environment. However the problem didn't occur enough times to be a major issue and can hopefully be patched up in a future software update.

Moving on to the inner hardware, the Desire S runs on the second generation Snapdragon processor along with the Adreno 205 graphics chipset. While this may sound old in comparison to the dual core monsters out there, trust me when I say that the Desire S is definitely no slouch.

As our benchmark scores will indicate, it ranks high amongst the single core devices out there and shares silicon with the Sony Xperia Play which makes it ripe for that Playstation certified branding which we hope does come to the device. We'd love to play some Final Fantasy VII on this!

15% faster in comparison to the chip in the previous Desire, the RAM has also been bumped up to a generous 768MB which makes the Desire breeze through even the most heavy apps. Sense UI remains extremely slick and smooth even when trying to stress the phone which shows how well optimized it actually is. The 1450mAh battery is fairly adequate when coupled with the Gingerbread OS on the Desire S as the newest version is known to be a bit lighter on the battery. Along with the more frugal Snapdragon chip, the Desire can last a day with moderate levels of usage. With careful battery management and light usage you should be able to get a few days usage without recharging the phone.

Camera

One of the things that smartphones are fast replacing is point and shoot cameras. The best camera is the one which you have with you and your phone is always in your hand. Make the cellphone cameras good enough and they can replace the point and shoot. The Nokia N8 has set a bench mark in the category and we expect other manufacturers to step up. Recently in our SE Arc review we noticed how good the camera is, unfortunately the Desire S takes several steps back.

We are not believers of the megapixels game but expect that even if "only" 5MP , the camera should be able to capture quality images. The phone instead captures grainy and often even fuzzy images. On the phones screen or even at web resolutions, the images look decent but look at them full size or try cropping into them and you will notice the constraints of the excessive post processing and the tiny sensor. HTC does add in some fancy filters to fulfill the needs of hipster photography addicts J Even the video which is captured at 720p fails to impress. The camera is one area where HTC needs to seriously improve. To its credit, the camera response is almost instantaneous and the HTC Camera UI layer is nice and easy to work with.

The front facing camera is present for video calling. With Gingerbread 2.3.4 , Google has added video calling support to Gtalk so you should be able to enjoy that on your phone once you get the update. Just don't expect to take any photos with that camera as in anything other than well-lit conditions you will have to deal with color spots, excessive noise.

Software

Android and Sense UI greet you when you switch on the HTC Desire S. Sense remains the same as you remember it, indeed if there are not many surprises here. HTC has effectively covered the entire Android UI and so you will either like it or you won't. If you are looking for a native Android experience you might as well start looking at other devices now, HTC has done an expert job with Sense UI and it remains as slick as ever on the new generation silicon. There are quite a few usability improvements in the software package. The lack of the optical trackpad is covered up with the presence of a software tweak that lets you place the cursor in the text with the help of a magnifying glass which pops up.

Sense UI also finally incorporates a quick settings tab which makes it infinitely more convenient to change often used settings like Bluetooth, mobile hotspot. Of course you could also use a widget for that but having the option is good.

There has also been a bit of overhauling on the widgets front with the Desire S offering a variant of the well-known HTC Clock which eschews the weather aspect of the clock and puts in a social feed option. It works like you would expect it to, pulling in your Facebook and Twitter updates. Like always, you get seven home screens to fill up as you wish with the first capacitive button working to give you an overview of all the screens at once.

A newer method of app sorting is also included with Sense UI. The layer now allows you to also sort apps by downloaded and recently used. The menu drawers are paginated and not free flowing which became a bit of a chore when trying to scroll down to an app placed lower in the menu.

Overall , it is a nice and smooth UI layer which is now beginning to show its age. We really do wish that Sense UI 3.0 shown off on the Sensation would also come to the Desire S.

Web browsing remains excellent as is seen on Android devices. Provide it with a sufficiently fast data source and the Desire S will churn through web pages. Flash 10.2 was on the sluggish side with the phone struggling to play back 720p Youtube content.

Conclusion

The Desire S is a well-designed piece of kit and can be easily recommended to anyone looking for a midrange Android device. It is easy to work with even for users new to the Android OS. Major improvements in battery life, better construction and software enhancements also make it a possible contender for people looking to upgrade from the original Desire. Long term viability of said purchase is questionable due to the incoming onslaught of dualcore devices and the increasing number of applications which make use of the extra power available to them.

Pros

1. Great build quality

2. Smooth performance

3. Gingerbread !

Cons

1. Camera quality

2. Lighting problems with capacitive keys

3. Sense UI is starting to feel stale

With Chaos Rings O barely even two days old, Square Enix has released a teaser trailer for a sequel entitled Chaos Rings II. We weren't that impressed by the latest Chaos Rings offering in our review, as it felt a little too much like an expansion of the original Chaos Rings than something that is new or different enough to be its own game. But, again, if you loved Chaos Rings, and just are looking for more of that, chances are you'll also dig Chaos Rings O. It wouldn't really surprise me if this was also the case with Chaos Rings II.

The above teaser is all we know about the Chaos Rings sequel right now. Since the trailer doesn't show much gameplay and (as of this writing) is in entirely un-subtitled japanese… We don't know much. WIth Chaos Rings O's planned cycle of updates that run all the way through December this year, my crystal ball is telling me that Chaos Rings II is going to be a first quarter 2012 title, or maybe even a holiday release.

We'll just have to wait and see as more information slowly dribbles out of Squeenix. I just hope they do something a little different with Chaos Rings II.

Word game aficionados, allow me to draw your attention to a freebie you don't want to pass by. 7 Little Words [Free] is a new word game from the creator of Moxie [99 / Free] and Moxie 2 [$1.99]. Those games picked up big followings over time, and this should be no different.

7 Little Words uses a super-simple formula that works really well. It feels a bit like a crossword or anagram game, and it's got me pretty hooked. Each puzzle presents you with seven clues for seven mystery words, and twenty two- or three-letter combinations. Put the letter combos together to make words that fit the clues. Your goal in each puzzle is to use up all the letters to create seven words.

The nice thing about 7 Little Words is that it relies on elimination. If you don't know a 7 letter word for "New Hampshire Stone," complete all the words you can and then experiment with what's left. I've certainly been challenged by this game, but I've never felt out of my depth. If you're truly stumped, you can't get stuck you're free to move onto any puzzle at any time.

The base game has 25 puzzles, and so far there are two packs of 50 puzzles available for 99 each, with more to come. As an added bonus, 7 Little Words is universal. If there are any other features you'd like to see, the developer has been hanging out on our forums.

The simplicity of 7 Little Words' gameplay is a strength, but the whole package might be a bit too simple. Don't expect a fancy interface, game center achievements or any other meta-game material. That said, I'm not really complaining. 7 Little Words is a challenging, creative word game that's definitely worth your time.

According to a Bloomberg's report, Sony joins EMI and Warner Music in partnering with Apple to finalize deals, which will allow users to stream music from the cloud to various devices without having to upload their tracks.

Google and Amazon have both launched their own beta versions of cloud music systems but users must first upload the tracks from their computer. Apple's system is expected to scan the user's music collection and allow consumers to keep all their music online and stream it to any devices.

It is expected that Universal Music Group is the next to get on board. As soon as Apple negotiates with all the record labels, we may see Apple launching iTunes in the cloud soon.

Earlier this year, Ten One Design released the iPad joystick accessory called the Fling. The brilliantly designed Fling is a conductive joystick nub set inside a plastic spiral, which itself is set inside an outer plastic ring. The spiral design allows the joystick to move within the outer ring which emulates the feel of an analog stick on a regular controller.

The whole device attaches to the screen of an iPad with two tiny suction cups, and allows you to replace many of the virtual analog sticks that are used in iOS games with an actual physical joystick that provides a tactile feel. If you are the type of person who has never quite gotten comfortable with virtual sticks, then the Fling is an ingenious alternative that can improve your experience with a lot of games.

In just a few short months since release, the Fling has gained a ton of popularity and has proven to be hit amongst many iPad gamers. Apparently they are a hit with the folks at Apple too, as you can now purchase the Fling Joystick at Apple Retail Stores nationwide.

This is actually a pretty big deal, as Apple usually doesn't get behind accessories that get in between the user and the touch screen, since part of the "magic" of iOS devices is that you can do everything so well using just your fingers and thumbs. In the case of the Fling though, I think Apple realizes that some games are just better suited to physical controls and the Fling is a simple, portable, and cleverly designed product that can help with that issue.

If the Fling joysticks sound like something that interests you, then be sure to check out our extensive Fling review where we tell you how well the joysticks actually work and what types of games do and don't work best with them.

If stumbling out of your dank apartment and into the real world to make the trip to an Apple Store doesn't sound appealing to you, then you can still order them online from the Fling product page on the Ten One Design website. They run $19.95 for a single joystick or $29.95 for a pack of two, and come in three different colors clear, black, and purple.

Well, it seems the folks at Mountain Sheep and Remedy Entertainment have been chowing down on their Wheaties based on all the work they've been getting done. Their popular combat racing game Death Rally [99] just launched at the end of March, and we're already on the fourth content update. This latest one isn't massive, but does add a few neat new features and some welcome fixes.

First off, there are 2 new Challenge race types, Dollar and Ammo. Dollar is a race where every item in crates and on the track is a cash pickup, and the same goes for Ammo but every item is an ammo pickup. The Ammo race is actually a great place to try out another new feature in this update, the Weapon Overdrive. Picking up ammo when you're already full will add a little glowing effect to your car and you'll automatically fire off a more powerful blast of whatever weapon you've equipped. So if you have missiles you'll shoot out multiple missiles, for example.

There are 2 new leaderboards in Game Center, one for total victories and one for total kills, and they've fixed a bug that prevented 2 achievements that were part of the last update from unlocking if you had previously earned them, which is nice since that was driving me crazy. They've also fixed the game progress restoration function that allows you to transfer your progress between devices, which wasn't behaving properly before. Finally, if you choose to "like" the Death Rally Facebook Page from within the game, you can unlock an additional paint job each for the Wraith, Shrieker, and Sentinel.

So, not a huge update, but a good one nonetheless. And there's the promise of much more to come, and at the rate the developers have been going I wouldn't be surprised to see the next update really soon. Also, Death Rally is still on sale for just 99, which is an absolute steal. You can refer to our original review of Death Rally or check out the impressions in our forums if you need some more convincing, and we'll keep our eyes peeled for the next update to come down the pipe.

Movement can be rather hard for visually impaired patients, but Swedish scientists have developed an electric wheelchair that can "see" for its users.

Team from Lule University of Technology has developed an electric wheelchair that allows its visually impaired users to "see" while using it. This wheelchair uses a joystick for steering and a haptic robot that acts as a virtual white cane. Thanks to the laser scanner, a simplified 3D map of wheelchair's surrounding is generated and transferred to the haptic robot, so that user can feel obstacles such as open doors or people.

Many people have good comments of this wheelchair after using it but it still has some flaws that need to be fixed. For example, the laser beam that scans the front of the chair only works on a specific height, so this is a major setback for this chair.

Despite the setbacks, the development team is planning to develop a 3D camera that can do full 3D measurement, and we should see the improved version of this chair in about five years.
