Last week we posted about the Indie iPhone Holiday Sale, a joint effort from six developers, each with fantastic indie titles, to raise money for Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. It really doesn't get more win/win than this. For $6, you get six great games, and some of the proceeds go to helping improve the quality of life of kids in hospitals across America.

The following games are still on sale until the 2nd of January:

To celebrate raising so much cash for kids in need, Semi Secret Software made a substantial announcement: Canabalt is now totally open source via the MIT license. This is the full latest version of the game that hasn't even been approved yet on the App Store which features some pretty sick OpenGL optimizations I've been told, allowing the game to run at 60fps on recent devices.

If you're a pioneering iOS developer, check out the source here. The license they're using is open enough that you can basically use the game engine for anything you want, provided you're not redistributing the game code, graphics, or sound. This really makes me wonder if we'll see a Canabalt spinoff that features all the unanswered suggestions from our forums.

Either way, this is great news for the developers participating in the sale, developers who are interested in looking under the hood of Canabalt, and most importantly: The kids benefitting from these donations.

I'm sure that you've heard about the infamous PS3 firmware hack such as the PS Jailbreak, and that Sony had many troubles with it. It looks like that is set to continue and Sony will face more trouble with custom firmwares because there's now a new technique that would let users crack the PS3's loader.

Hacking team, Fail0verflow, has developed a new technique that cracks the PS3's loader and gives the user complete control over the system. The team has managed to calculate private keys to the system, due to poor security, and thanks to these keys, the hacking community can now sign their own code with ease. Of course, with Sony's already vulnerable current v3.55 PS3 firmware, it will be difficult for Sony to fix this.

As for this tool, we should see it out next month, we'll keep you posted.

Portable consoles have always been popular, but they cannot compare to standard consoles that we have at our homes, but what if we could combine power of home consoles and the mobility of portable consoles?

We've seen all sorts of mods byenthusiastsand today we have another Wii mod that will allow us to enjoy in Wii games even if we're not at home. The one behind this mod is ShockSlayer, this Wii Laptop comes with a built-in seven-inch display and rechargeable batteries, so you can enjoy play with it wherever you are. It also comes with three integrated speakers, SD card slot and a SATA hard drive so you won't have to carry your Wii games with you in order to enjoy in them.

This is an amazing mod, I don't know about you, but I don't think I would enjoy playing Wii games with that tiny display probably the main disadvantage of this console laptop's design.

Kinect is here, and despite its success, we're more interested in Kinect's technology underneath, its hacks and modifications than the games it plays. Today you'll see how you can you use your Kinect with your PC and play games with Kinect as your controller.

USC Institute for Creative Technologies has developed a special toolkit known as Flexible Action and Articulated Toolkit (FAAST). With this technology, you can map 20 different motions to keyboard buttons, and by performing certain movements, you'll be triggering the keyboard keys and certain actions in the game. Folks from USC Institute have demonstrated this in World of Warcraft and we can say that results are impressive.

We have to noticed that FAAST is currently in version .03, and it won't replace standard gaming equipment, but it's a project that is definitely worth checking out.

We checked out the soon to be launched Airtel Mobile TV app powered by Airtel 3G. The live tv app we checked is for Symbian. It runs on all symbian platforms except s60V2. This app comes with preloaded channels and we believe its free of charge to use. But you may be charged for data usage. The app streams the good number of channels without buffering. We are quite impressed with the streaming quality. We hope that the app will support streaming of videos as we found a video menu inside the app.

In our preview the app was running so smooth in Nokia N8, Nokia C7 , Nokia E71 and Nokia 5233.

Here are some news channels available inside the app.

Check out the video below to check out the quality
