Chillingo Acquired by EA for $20 Million Dollars [Updated x2]

The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital posted some interesting details today regarding a potential acquisition of Chillingo by the hand of gaming giant EA. Neither company needs any kind of introduction around here, and it's really amazing to see all these huge multi-million dollar deals flying around lately over iPhone games. Price estimates of the purchase range from $80 million to $200 million, and there apparently are a number of companies interested in Chillingo ranging from DeNA, Activision, Gameloft, and oddly enough, even Microsoft's gaming unit.

We're waiting for comment from both Chillingo and EA.

Update: Reuters is reporting the sale price to be $20 million, but the full details have yet to be made public.

Update 2: We just heard from Chris Byatte, General Manager (former President) of Chillingo and got a brief comment on the buyout. In his words, "The acquisition will allow us to marry our expertise in identifying and cultivating the ideas of independent developers with the publishing power and reach of EA mobile. It is going to be BIG!"

We expect to get more details soon, as both Chillingo and EA seem to be inundated with requests currently. An official press release explaining the acquisition can't be too far off.

Releasing Tonight: &#39;Reckless Racing&#39;, &#39;Angry Birds Halloween&#39;, &#39;Samurai II: Vengeance&#39;, and Others

If you're lucky enough to live in New Zealand, these games are already all available. Otherwise, as the world turns and it slowly becomes Thursday in your neck of the woods, all of these games should appear for download on the App Store. For those of us who get our games from the US App Store, this means 11:00 PM EST tonight, or earlier if you're east of us.

Reckless Racing, $2.99 [Forum Thread] � We've had our hands all over Reckless Racing when it was previously known as Deliverace. The project got picked up by EA Mobile, and has seen several substantial improvements including multiple gameplay modes and even online multiplayer. Reckless Racing HD [$4.99] is also coming to the iPad, if you prefer your racin' on the big screen.

Angry Birds Halloween, 99� [Forum Thread] � Rovio Mobile is apparently abandoning Chillingo with this self-published Halloween themed version of Angry Birds. 45 levels are included along with a new story of the golden egg of terror, and there's plenty of pumpkins to smash. Much like the original Angry Birds an iPad version is available in a separate download as Angry Birds Halloween HD [$1.99].

Samurai II: Vengeance, $2.99 [Forum Thread] � This universal ultra-gory hack and slash is also being released tonight, and with how great the original looked, I really can't wait to see this game in action on the iPad. They're even promising 60 FPS frame rates at Retina Display resolutions on newer devices.

Other games being released tonight include Gameloft's Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus HD [$9.99] and a sequel to Namco's Brain Exercise with Dr. Kawashima [$4.99 / Lite] cleverly titled More Brain Exercise with Dr. Kawashima [$4.99]. New 11? and 13? MacBook Air will have instant on capability

The new MacBook Airs' introduced tonight at the 'Back to the Mac' event has no optical drive as with the first generation but neither will it have a hard drive. This explains the fact that it can allow instant-on functionality. The latest MacBook Air is the first of a new generation of notebooks that leaves behind mechanical rotating storage in favor of solid state flash storage.

The MacBook Air has memory up to two times faster that is more reliable and 90 percent smaller and lighter.

Both models have a forward-facing FaceTime camera, an Core 2 Duo processor, and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics.

The new 13-inch model gets 7 hours of battery life, with 30 days of standby time. The new MacBook Air has a full-size keyboard and a full-size glass trackpad as well. The 13.3-inch display is 1440-by-900 pixels, and the model weighs a stunning 2.9 pounds.

The larger model starts at $1,299 or �1,099 for 128GB of storage with a 1.86GHZ processor. Doubling the storage to 256GB will cost you $1,599 or �1,349.

The newly launched 11-inch model has a display resolution of 1366�768 pixels. Just as thin, but is even lighter, at just 2.3 pounds.

The low-end model has a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo and 64GB of storage for $999 or �849. The higher-end model with 128GB (but no other difference in spec) will cost $1,199 or �999.

UK: Orange HTC 7 Mozart and Samsung Omnia 7 Windows Phone 7 handsets available tomorrow

Orange has announced today that its first ever Windows Phone 7 handsets to hit the UK � the HTC 7 Mozart and Samsung Omnia 7, will be available tomorrow (Thursday) morning.

Oxford Street based Orange store will open its doors at 7 am with anticipationo that queues of long awaited fans will be wanting a first look at these highly anticipated Windows Phone 7 mobiles.

While Microsoft fans are probably well aware, for those that need a recap, the HTC 7 Mozart features a 3.7-inch WVGA resolution, super LCD display, 8-megapixel camera, Dolby sound and a 1GHz processor. While the slightly higher spec Samsung's Omnia 7 touts a 4.0-inch Super-AMOLED touchscreen and a 1 GHz processor. Each phone will be available for free with a new contract starting at �35 per month for the 7 Mozart and �40 per month for the Omnia 7.
