T-Mobile Optimus G2x will receive Gingerbread soon, says T-Mobile

LG Optimus 2X is the first ever dual-core device which was launched by LG this year. It's currently available in USA via T-Mobile where it's known as T-Mobile G2X. What's the difference between these two devices? The hardware is same but T-Mobile one is running stock version of Android which is also known as Vanilla. Optimus G2x is now available for purchase, but people who bought this phone have only one question, when there device will get Gingerbread? Well, someone on Twitter lost his patience and asked T-Mobile about it. And in reply, T-Mobile said:

Gingerbread is coming to the G2x soon. You won't have to wait long.

Well, we don't know how "soon" but I think it's coming next month or maybe in June because LG Optimus 2X will receive it in June/July. As G2x is on stock Android version, I am sure that Gingerbread experience on G2x will be amazing.

Patched Skype app for Android gets 3G calling feature

There are all sorts of apps available for Android OS, but as you know, some of these apps have security vulnerabilities, and the Skype application has been one of them. The latest news is that the Skype team have now managed to fix a security hole in their app for Android OS.


According to Skype, there was a security hole in Skype for Android that allowed other apps to access its database that contained all sorts of personal data such as usernames, profiles, contacts, and chat logs. Since this security hole compromised privacy of their users, folks from Skype intervened, and they have managed to fix this security exploit by changing the database permissions. Besides fixing this security exploit, the Skype team also added a completely unrelated 3G calling feature, so now you can make both 3G and WiFi calls with Skype on your Android device.

Updated and newly patched version of Skype is now available on Android Market for download, but make sure you don't have the leaked version of Skype which has also got the video calling feature as the update will not apply.

T-Mobile Motorola DEFY gets Froyo Update

Here is good news for all the T-Mobile Motorola Defy owners. T-Mobile finally announces the software upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo. The phone is currently running on the Android 2.1 Eclair OS.

The file size of the new software update is around 120MB, which comes over the air. If you get a notification message about the update, you can download it by selecting 'Install now' else you have to go to the Settings>About phone>System updates>Download and then 'Install' the software. Once the installation is done the phone will automatically restart.

The 34.4.9 update for the phone comes with the following features.

  • Faster phone speed and performance
  • Adobe Flash support
  • Enables Apps storage on Micro SD
  • WiFi Hotspot capability
  • Added security features
  • New revamped User interface
  • Linked-In account integration

Note : This update is only for the T-Mobile version of the device. No news if the the unlocked DEFY sold outside the USA will get this update too.
