The HTC Sensation XL isn't the most exciting smartphones currently on the market. But it is one of the few devices that comes with amassive 4.7? display. If you are the type of person who finds the original HTC Sensation small, then this may be the devicefor you.

The single core Qualcomm SnapdragonSoC doesn't exactlyscream exciting, but the 1.5GHz Scorpion CPUcombined Adreno 205 GPU is fast enough for AndroidGingerbread and the majority of apps available for it. 768MB of RAM is included, which is plenty of multi-tasking purposes though falls shortof flagships by Samsung and Motorola with their 1GB RAM.

The 4.7? Super LCD display has a resolution of 480800. Granted, a qHD or720p resolution would probably bemore suited for a screen this size, but the screen looks sharp nevertheless. Colours are well saturated and the contrast ratio is good for a LCD display. The capacitive touchscreen offers good all around sensitivity.

Below the screen lies four of the standard Android hardware keys, and above it the ambient light sensor, proximity sensorand 1.3MP front camera. The micro USBport is located on the left side of the device while the right side only contains a single volume rocker. The power button and 3.5mm headphone jack are found on the top of the device.

Finally on the back you will find the 8 Megapixelcamera with backlit sensor and a 28mm widescreen f2.2 lens, dual LED flash and loudspeaker. Peel off the unibodyback cover and you will find the 1600mAh battery and a regular size SIM card slot. Unfortunately the Sensation XL does not feature an expansion card slot so you will have to make do with the 16GB flash (of which almost 12.6GB is accessible) already built-in.

Inside the device you will find all the usual wireless gubbins that makes up a standard 2011 smartpone. These includes a GPS receiver, quad band GSM with EDGE, tri band 3G with HSPA+ speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n including DLNA feature, Bluetooth 3.0 and Stereo FM.

I did not find the size to be as much an issue as the slippery metal back and sidewas. At times the phone feels like jumping out of my palms. Despite the modest increase inscreen sizeover my Samsung Galaxy S II, which is my main everyday smartphone, the Sensation XL's extra 0.4? in display size makes all the differences in usability.

The Sensation XL runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with HTC Sense UI.This isn't Google's latest and greatest, but it is Google's latest and greatest that is currently available on the market. HTC has promised that the Sensation XL will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update, though they have not given a definite rollout date.

Sense UI is a lovely piece of third party overlay, though not everyone is a fan of it. Still for the majority of users, the launcher works well and provides adequate amount of useful widgets. More can be obtained from the Android Market, and users can even completely replace it altogether.

Included in the box is a pair Monster urBeats in-ear headphone. The headphones comes with a love it or hate it red cabling. While I doubt the urBeats are capable of taking on my mighty Sennheiser IE 8, this is probablyone of the nicerheadphones that a consumer can find bundled with their phones. I am no fan of Dr. Dre products, but we willbe testingBeatsAudioto see if it does make a difference in improving the overall sound quality of the phone.

The HTC Sensation XL is currentlyavailablein the UK market on the Three network.

Yesterday at EA's Naughty or Nice event in New York, I sat down with Levi Buchanan of Chillingo to have a look at a few of the titles the studio has in the pipeline for iOS. One of the titles in question places iOS gamers in the role of a hero that is in no way wanting in the blue and red spandex department. Yes readers, the Man of Steel will soon be training his heat vision upon the App Store.

Superman, developed by Tiger Games, is an iPhone only game that puts you in the red boots of the son of Jor-El. It's a stand alone action adventure, not tied to any particular film outing, old or new. The story goes like this. Lex Luthor has taken it upon himself to launch a series of satellites to "help" with the whole climate change problem. Superman is understandably concerned by the bald villain's true motives. (Spoiler: they're bad.)

The game throws you right into the City of Metropolis, represented in side-scrolling 2D, with a good sampling of your superpowers available for use. The goal is to make it through 18 levels, defeating baddies by any of a number of different means, putting out fires with your freeze-breath, and working your way to defeating the evil Luthor and his orbiting offensive.

The game is designed to be played in mobile-friendly 3-4 minute sessions, each of which call upon most of Superman's superpowers to get the jobs done. As Superman flies about Metropolis, arrows surrounding his powerful self point directly to situations that need attention, color coded for urgency. The backstory is told via comic book-style panels, appropriately, and the whole thing is a touch-controlled race against the clock.

As long as your iPhone case isn't crafted from Kryptonite, you should have no problems taking a stab at the role of Kal-El in Superman later this year.

We sat down with EA at yesterday's Naughty or Nice games event in New York and had a look at a number of upcoming iOS titles, one of which should put a smile on the faces of all the real-world FPS fans out there. Coming this winter, for iOS only, is a spin-off of the imminent, big-news home console title Battlefield 3, entitled Battlefield 3 Aftershock, which we first covered back in August.

Battlefield 3 Aftershock is a single- and multi-player FPS that will feature a range of battlefield locations around globe. The early demo version I played with was set in Iraq (only) and the additional play locations have not yet be revealed.

Single player mode, EA explained, is being built around powerful 3D visuals, great gameplay, ragdoll physics and a wave system of enemy attacks designed to provide the best mobile wargame possible with an emphasis on mobile. The combat system is built around incoming hordes of enemies 150 waves per map designed to deliver relentless FPS action that can, on the go, be played just one wave at a time in 3-4 minute sessions.

There are four different character classes with heavy weapons variation (over 50 in all) and a high degree of player customization options. The multi-player game is expected to support matches with up to 10 players and character experience gained in single-player mode will translate over to multi-player, allowing for solo build-sessions between matches.

Battlefield 3 Aftershockis controlled via two on-screen "sticks," movement on the left and aiming on the right. There is also an aim-assist button on the right that helps lock down targeting for those wanting a bit of help with the headshots. A few minutes of gameplay showed an impressive degree of detail and action on the demo iPad's screen. In this early build of the game, there's still room for some shader work, it seemed, but striking visuals are on EA's list of priorities for the final release, so I expect that will get tightened up before release. Even still, as is, it's one of the best looking iOS shooters I've seen.

Battlefield 3 Aftershock will arrive as a universal application (for iPhone and iPad) in late '11 or early '12 and will feature integration with EA's own Origin online network. You can count on a review of the title, closer in.

Yesterday , TouchArcade attended EA's Naughty or Nice game event in New York and got some hands-on time with a host of new titles on the way to the App Store from EA, Chillingo, and PopCap Games. We'll be sharing details on these titles across several posts, but first up is the new one from PopCap, Popcorn Dragon.

Popcorn Dragon is a fun little game full of the cute and also the whimsy. It puts you in touch control of Ignatius Flamb, a little dragon with big dreams. Ignatius is something of a cinephile and, as such, he flies about 10 different levels, each themed with different classic movie backdrops there's westerns, sci-fi, mysteries and more. Along the way, Ignatius must ch0w-down on as much popcorn as possible by using his fiery breath to pop the hale of corn kernels that float across the gamescreen. The more popcorn he eats, the longer his tail becomes. Sadly, various baddies seek to thwart Ignatius' popcorn popping progress, so the player must be on the lookout for vultures, velociraptors, luchadores and the like. Luckily, Ignatius' fiery breath can singe more than just popcorn, and that long tale is good for a few whacks at the baddies.

While flying and popping and eating and whacking, movie tickets can be collected to buy Ignatius stylish outfits to wear to the cinema. Strong play earns experience points and achievements, and various power-ups can be unlocked to crank up the face fire.

Popcorn Dragon has that clean, colorful, charming aesthetic we've come to expect from PopCap and will be available for both the iPhone and iPad sometime in November at an as-yet undisclosed price.

Designed by Taras Lesko, graphics designer, this is not your average Audi A7 sportback. The A7 pictured below is in fact handmade of paper but to extraordinary detail both its exterior and interior. The incredible papercraft model was recently featured at Audi's presentation at the New York Auto Show, altogether it took Taras 245 hours to put together, the results are well worth it.

As far as I'm aware, I know my Macs are reasonably eco-friendly (but don't ask me for the exact CO2 emission), however if you happen to be an eco-Mac-geek and fancy cutting down your contribution to the ozone layer further Logitech have now got a new keyboard you might like to check out.

In fact, the Logitech wireless solar keyboard has been around for a few months, the only difference is that it was available only for Windows PCs. Users on Amazon have given it brilliant reviews and feedback overall is fantastic, the fact that the keyboard is pretty portable, slim and can go on without any light for three whole months has been its main selling point. For this new Mac version, very little of that has changed standard layout with concaved keys for greater comfort, as a bonus though, it will be available in five different colours as you can see below. Compatibility will be with all Macs, OS X 10.4 or above.

Logitech is taking pre-orders now and selling it for $20 less than the list price of the $79.99 PC version at $59.99. If you're in the UK, that gets bumped up abit to 69.99. Despite the pricetag, we still think its a product worth looking into and we're certainly looking forward to get our hands on it for a more thorough review soon.

Many thanks to Justin for the tip!

Whether or not this is innovation is up to you to decide. Steer Safe is based on the idea that using your mobile device while driving can be safer, its basically a dock that is attached to the top of your steering wheel. By doing so, the designers believe driving will be safer as you'll be able to keep your eyes on the road and won't need to look towards either side to stare at your sat nav or find out who's calling you while you're busy driving.

The Steer Safe dock will universally fit almost any device shaped like a mobile phone ie iOS devices, BlackBerries, Android smartphones as well as mp3 players.

As you can see in the video below, it also lets you rotate your device onto landscape mode in case you need it for turn by turn navigation. The good thing is I suppose its not very obstructive and it won't hit your knees when you turn, but many will probably take abit of time to get used to as most of us aren't used to having something stuck in the top-center of our wheel.

If you support the idea and want to make the concept a reality, jump to the Kickstarter page via the link below and give the creators your support…

Our very highest regards go to Wes Pitter who is the creator and designer of this amazing Lego masterpiece. The Lego made yellow Camaro you see below took Wes two years of his spare time to assemble, this wasn't because he had difficulty putting together the car but as you will probably appreciate, its not easy to put together bricks that can transform and take shape of a completely different from, without having to dissemble it.

The transformation might not be a pretty process, as Wes himself admits, but the end result is just outstanding. It is hard enough to create Lego models as it is, but to create exact replicas that also transform to perfection into a completely different form is mastery at its very best. Check out the gallery below, for more details do click on the source link at the bottom.

Toshiba is rapidly increasing their growth in the field of 3D gears and glasses-free 3D displays. Last month the company released Qosmio X775 3D laptop. And now they have rolled out world's first glasses-free 3D laptop, called Toshiba Qosmio F750, which is expected to release sometime next month.

The Toshiba Qosmio F750 has a lenticular lens sheet display which makes slightly different images to be seen by the left and the right eye, thus creating the 3D effect. The laptop also has an HD webcam which further enhances the 3D formation.

It runs on a high performance Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor, comes packed with a 640GB hard drive, 6GB DDR3 RAM, nVidia GeForce 540M graphics, a Blu-ry XL optical drive, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. It has a screen size of 15.6 inches and comes in dimensions of 380.55 x 254 x 37.6 mm.

It is however not perfect for 3D gameplays. As it requires you to sit without any movement to watch 3D graphics, it will not be ideal for displaying 3D graphics for gaming because gamers are used to shaking their heads and body during gaming!

The Qosmio F750 will be available from August 2011, and it'll likely be priced around $2,100 USD.

If you're looking to buy a new external hard drive either for your desktop or a more portable one for on the go storage, you now have another one to choose from.

The new line of LaCie Porsche Design P9000 hard drives come in desktop or mobile versions, they are by far some of the most stylish ones we've seen in a long while. Each clad in a 5mm thick aluminum casing that goes beyond aesthetics to help protect the drive inside and dissipate heat.

Available in sizes ranging from 500GB up to 2TB, they also sport USB 3.0 technology, so those decidedly unsexy file transfers are over as quickly as possible. Pricing ranges from $105 to $160.

Looks like we have discovered yet another bug in the otherwise awesome SuperAMOLED Plus display of the Samsung Galaxy S2. A almost new unit we came across had this weird grey circle at the bottom of the screen.

We have heard about some users complaining about an yellow tinge in their screens but this is first time we are actually seeing a different problem. The user has had the phone for a couple of weeks now and this does not seem like something that will fix itself over a period of time. Just to add, this little circle is not visible to the human eye unless you are inside an application with a dark background like tweetdeck or gallery. We tried getting our hands on a couple of other S2's and they did not have this issue.

Check out 2 more pics in the gallery below. Are you using a Galaxy S2 ? Do you have any issues with the display ?

Those crazy geniuses over at ThinkGeek recently invited me to visit their Fairfax, VA Megaplex headquarters. (We're more or less neighbors, you see.) Today I headed over and spent an hour surrounded by an inspiring cloud of creativity.

And I brought my camera.

For those somehow unfamiliar, ThinkGeek is basically, in short, the best geek toy store in the world. They started off in the late '90s with just a handful of folks and have grown to about 70 in all, spread about an office space that rivals Pixar for complete awesomeness / workplace heaven. It's one of those rare places where, no matter how hard you might be working, it can't possibly actually feel like work. And, I'm quite sure the amazing atmosphere plays no small role in the amount of ridiculously fine products they create and send out the door.

Jamie, whose business card reads "Evil Schemes, Nefarious Plans," gave me the tour, along with "PR Manager / Righteous Dude" Shane. I saw recent products, long ago products, and products still in the design pipeline (that I wish I could talk about they're awesome!). I also saw the offices, design shops, photo studios, and fun rooms that make them all possible. Everything I saw I wanted to take home with me, basically. But, of all the wondrous gadgets and gizmos, it's the original April Fools iCade unit that I most want to share with readers.

At the Megaplex I met Ty who originally envisioned the iCade, as well as Hans, one of the product designers. They showed me a mid-stage, two-button iCade prototype as well as the original April Fools unit, complete with slide-in, foam-and-paper iPad. (The iCade landed on ThinkGeek's 2010 April Fools page, after the original iPad had been announced, but before it shipped.) I was also treated to the original pen-and-paper design sketches that brought the unit to life. And, button count aside, the 'Fools unit looks pretty darned close to the shipping model.

Jamie explained that the iCade was designed to interface with the iPad in the guise of a Bluetooth keyboard for reasons of simplicity, as opposed to taking the route of tying straight into the unit as a custom control device. A bundle of example code and docs for developers working under various frameworks is coming, but it's true that a game can interface with the iCade by just looking for the keyboard codes that it sends a pretty simple and straightforward arrangement.

ION Audio's fortuitous relationship with Atari has given early adopters a nice set of games to chew on, but Jamie made me aware of certain forthcoming titles that will support the diminutive cabinet's controls and I promise that gamers won't be disappointed.

And, while it's not directly iOS related, one of the other stand-out items I saw during my visit was the April Fools Playskool Apple Store. It's genius and, well, who doesn't want one? I grabbed a few photos of the setup, but I'm afriad we probably won't be seeing this one spring to life, like the iCade did. [Sad face]

The complete photoset from my visit can be seen over at Flickr.

A visit to ThinkGeek's Megaplex. What a great way to spend an afternoon!

The iCade is here. It started as an April Fools joke and became a reality. We got ours this evening and wanted to share a few unboxing photos. Its Bluetooth controls work right out of the box with all 100 games in Atari's Greatest Hits [App Store] and so far it's been a blast to play with.

We'll post our full review of the system tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Introduction

We all require some kind of protection for our gadgets. While some may need more protection at the cost of extra bulkiness, some people just require minimum protection and will not want to add much extra bulkiness.

But while Invisible Shields provide protection from scratches, it hardly provides any sort of protection from impacts. In such cases people resort to Rubber cases which provide protection from scratches as well as certain resistance to impacts. Here we are going to review the Blackberry Pearl 3G Skins.

Design and Build Quality

The Blackberry Skin is made up of rubber material. The case fits perfectly on the phone and gets aligned with the device. There are gaps for the Camera unit, speaker, microphone, microUSB and the 3.5mm audio jack. The media keys on the top, the volume keys and the programmable buttons on either sides have covering.

At the back of the case, there is the Blackberry logo just below the camera unit. The case is made from a material that's different from usual. It is more flexible and thinner than usual rubber cases and also is smoother to touch. There are no awkward cuts or defects with the case.

Comfort

The case is extremely light and quite thin thus adding very little bulk. So you might not notice when you use the phone or while it's in your pockets. The gaps in the case make it easier for the user to access the controls and units. The keys that have covering also work perfectly fine as the case does not hinder the ease of use. The case is smooth and feels good to touch.

Safety

Though the case is smooth to touch, it provides good grip while in your hands or while it is placed on a surface and thus prevents it from sliding and falling off places such as a car dashboard. The case will protect your phone from scratches and also dust. It can even protect it from shocks and bumps but if it's from a great height, your device might be hurt.

Conclusion

If you want a stylish and sleek case for your Blackberry Pearl 3G that also provides protection, the official Blackberry Skin is the way to go. It also comes in different colours such as Waterloo Green, Henna Orange, Yellow Tub, Turquoise Tub, Translucent etc to meet your styling needs. You can purchase the cases here.
