You've probably read all about the rootkit that comes with the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update, and you might be surprised, but this rootkit isn't anything new, and in fact, Sony had this rootkit on hold since 2006.

You think that this rootkit is the last resort in war against piracy and that it is violating terms of use and the privacy of their users? According to the terms and conditions with every purchase of a Sony PlayStation 3, it seems that Sony had the right to put a rootkit in your system ever since 2006. So you see, Sony isn't violating any rights, because they assumed that you read them all when you bought their console, but who reads terms of use when buying a next generation console?

So you see, in this case you cannot complain since Sony covered this already, so if you're using your PS3 for anything non-legal you probably shouldn't connect it to the internet until further solutions arise.
