Microsoft's rumoured acquisition of Skype has now become official. Microsoft will acquire Skype for an amount of 8.5 billion US $.

Even though the price was finalised on 18th April, the deal was signed yesterday on 9th May. Windows Phone� integration as well as XBox and Kinect support have been mentioned in the announcement.

Microsoft also brings good news for non-Microsoft users as they plan to continue investment and support Skype clients on non Microsoft platforms. Skype has access to Qik and now Microsoft will also have access to Qik as well.

A new Microsoft Skype division will be created to accommodate the staff and Skype CEO Tony Bates will become the president of that division and will report directly to Steve Ballmer.
