AMD Radeon HD 6990 gets closer to an official release date. The video card based on two series graphics core Cayman, the same used by Radeon HD 6970, has faced similar problems related to maintaining acceptable levels of energy consumption, but the AMD relative is believed to have the advantage of using a less expensive graphics processors.

The specifications for the Radeon HD 6990 promises a total of 3072 stream processors and no more than 4GB memory of gDDR5 (2GB for each GPU). Nevertheless still unconfirmed rumors claim the presence of no less than 3840 stream processors, a detail that would make a serious competitor for the GeForce GTX 595.

Connectivity options include four DisplayPort connectors and only one DVI-D port.

The AMD Radeon HD 6990 video card will probably be slower than the alternative proposed by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 595, but the winner could be decided ultimately by the availability of products on the market and their subsequent performance / highest price report.
