Solar power is a renewable and infinite source of energy, so it's no wonder to see that people are trying to make the most out of it. After solar airplanes, now we have a chance to see solar trains as well.

The roof of a Belgian high-speed rail line has been covered with 16, 000 solar panels in order to provide enough power for trains that are running through Antwerp Central Station. However, these panels supply the surrounding railway infrastructure as well, and according to the solar solution provider Enfinity, these panels can produce energy that can supply 4,000 trains per year.

In fact, power produced by these panels is enough to supply entire Belgian rail traffic for an entire day. Engineers have started working on this project summer of the last year, and they have covered 50,000 square meters (164,000 sq ft) with solar panels. As for the produced energy, these panels produce 3.3 GWh of power that is enough to supply about 1,000 homes for a whole year.

This is an amazing project and a huge step for rail traffic, and we hope that we'll see more projects like this worldwide.
