Facial recognition is an amazing feature if you want to use to unlock your iPhone for example, but what if facial recognition could be used to track you from a distance?
Air Force is working a new facial recognition technology that will be used to identify and track possible insurgents from a distance. Photon-X Inc. develops this technology and thanks to only a few seconds of video footage, camera creates special bio signature using special measurements, infrared and visual light.
In addition, this technology maps person's static facial features as well as muscle movements that are unique to each individual. This technology can be used to target enemy vehicles or it can be integrated into robots so they can navigate and identify objects. Air Force sees this technology used by law enforcement, banks, and private security firms to monitor their customers for suspicious activities.
This technology sounds amazing, but it remains a question how will such technology affect our privacy and our personal life.
