A few weeks ago, Vodafone UK officially announced Vodafone Smart, which is a low-end Android powered device designed for people who are not that much in the smartphone game, and it's a Vodafone branded phone. It's actually for people who are looking for a cheap device to use it as their main or secondary device. The phone is small like the Motorola Wilder, but Smart is running on Android. It features a 2.8-Inch capacitive touchscreen display, 528 MHz processor, 130 MB internal memory and there is also microSD card support, 2 MP camera, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. If you are thinking that it's an entry level device and it will be running on Android 1.5 then you are wrong because it's running on Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo.

Vodafone is offering a number of high-end Android and other devices, but that doesn't mean they don't care about people who can't afford it. That's why they are offering Smart and if you want this handset, then get it for just 60 on Pay as you go. It's really cheap and price isn't bad for a handset running on Android 2.2 with some decent entry level specs.

Well, anyone getting it as their main or secondary device?

The Apple Design Awards are an annual event hosted at WWDC that seeks to recognize the best of the best applications and games across whatever Apple platforms Apple wants to elevate. In 2010 the Mac was snubbed, but in 2011 Apple flipped the script and gave it a place amongst the other two relevant platforms: the iPad and the iPhone.

The results of 2011's awards show are now public. In the interest of our interests, we'll be highlighting just the games that took the fancy little trophy Apple gave to winners. A few listing can be seen at sites like, say, TUAW.

iPhone

Cut the Rope [$.99 / HD] Chillingo
Infinity Blade [$5.99] Chair Entertainment

Mac

Anomaly: Warzone Earth [$6.99], 11-Bit Studios

iPad

Osmos [$2.99 / HD], Hemisphere Games

Infinity Blade and Cut the Rope are two fantastic titles that really stress the strengths of the platform. Both feel native and original and benefit from the unique platform. These are well-deserved winners, for sure.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a firm example of what you can do with a limited budget and a great idea. It's a gorgeous "in reverse" tower defense title in which you're charged with taking down towers with a small group of minions. Warzone Earth is geeked out with all sorts of fun sub-systems and unique points of design. This was a solid choice, too.

Osmos, on the other hand, is a laid-back experience that doesn't require much from the owner. It's an ambient game that looks beautiful and plays just as well on the iPad as it does on the PC and the Mac. Good one on Apple for recognizing this.

According to TUAW, the winners in these categories have are receiving a Macbook Air, an iPad 2, and an iPod Touch in addition to their trophy. I wonder if anyone at Chair is in a position to need free tech. From the sound of it, Apple should have given them flippers to swim through the pool of cash below the office.

On June 6 Nintendo pushed out its e-Shop update to all 3DS owners with connected devices. From head to toe, this is a more streamlined digital marketplace than the one featured on the 3DS' predecessor. But while there's a lot of good, rational stuff in the e-Shop, the marketplace as a whole still doesn't stack up well against the App Store.

The App Store, whether you love or hate its bulkiness and constant deluge of releases large and small and bad or good, is a better experience. Tools like "What's Hot," "Staff Favorites," and "New and Noteworthy" do an acceptable job at pointing at the next big thing. Its search is simple, sharp, and intuitive and its genre or hook-based splash pages are often valid little storefronts themselves.

To its credit, the e-Shop has similar tools, but they're all contained within a blade-based UI that is, already, cumbersome and flooded to the extent that it's hard to find the good or the unique in the store. For example, Plants vs. Zombies [$2.99 / HD] is available now, but where is it? This is a fantastic joint on the DS platform as well and it's sadly not being featured in the front of the store or in an easily discoverable place, as it should be.

Oh wait it's tucked beyond all the first-party releases, which conveniently for Nintendo, are all featured prominently at the front of the e-Shop.

The e-Shop has a "Staff Pick of the Week." This week it's Cave Story. Behind this listing a few panels back there's a "Charts" category, as well as a "Recent Arrivals." To the right is a mess of featured games followed by a senseless "Games Shown at E3" category.

Finally, after this, there's the "Virtual Console" category and a mess of genre-based or non-specific listings. "Puzzle Games" and "Card Games" make sense, but then there's the "2-Player Games" category, "4-Player Games," the "Essential Games" listing and so on, which are all choked with a mishmash of releases. PVZ is in this latter category.

All of these blades give consumers more options to look through and further breakdowns, which if anything, is better than what the DSi offered. There's also a welcome search bar at the bottom of the screen… but you have to know what's out to find it.

Nintendo has ditched the points contrivance. Now, games cost real money and not Nintendo Banana Dollars which you get in exchange for real currency. Also, it looks like developers will have a lot more control over price points; I'm noting quite a few $1.99 downloads.

Those are cool changes, but I think the e-Shop needs work. It needs better, more concise categorization. It also needs to dump the blade interface in favor of something that uses both screens on the device. Right now, the bottom screen is the only one that reveals meaningful data. That's a waste of screen real estate. I'd also like to see the first-party marketing stuff take a hike; "Games of E3" and "3DS Games Coming Soon" are taking up precious space that could be used for more categorization.

The mouse and keyboard interface of the App Store will always be better. I get that. But the e-Shop is just two days old and has, maybe, just over three hundred releases that are already hard to find. What's this going to be like six months from now?

The existence of some of these more streamlined e-Shop features indicated that Nintendo is listening to consumer feedback. I just wonder if it'll keep listening, or if we'll need to wait until the next handheld to find the downloadable games we all want to play.

On a related note, the e-Shop is offering a "3D Classic" version of Excitebike free of charge until late this July. It's the original 2D and with the 3D slider, you can change the perspective of the background. It tilts. You can find this at the front of the store. The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX is also available for purchase. It's an awesome game and it continues to look and play great on the 3DS. This is also at the front of the store.

Motorola is one of the leading mobile phone companies in the world, and they joined Android bandwagon back in 2009 by announcing their first ever Android device known as Motorola Droid a.k.a Motorola Milestone. Motorola mostly devices are Android powered, they have announced a lot of high and low end Android devices. nWe recently showed you a leak shot of Motorola EX-130 which is a Brew powered phone and we told you that it will be out soon. And today, Motorola officially announced Motorola Wilder which is actually the leaked phone we saw. It's a good looking phone and it's actually a low-end phone especially for teenagers. Wilder is a small phone but it offers a lot of good stuff. The device is dust resistant as well as splash proof too, and the device actually has two displays. First is the main 2.8-Inch resistive touchscreen display and the second one is a 9616 pixel ticker display, which will actually show notifications. It has a 2 MP camera which is also capable to record video, 5MB of storage and also microSD support. The device also comes with some pre-installed apps.

The thing I really like in the Wilder is the price. It will hit Carphone Warehouse UK in July for only 49.95, which is probably an unlocked price of this phone. It's a good device and it's not a smartphone, it's a just a low-end phone with some good features. Check out the promo video after the break:

Anyone looking forward to this cute little device?

Internet is rapidly developing, and since many people are using old browsers which do not provide support for new features such as HTML5, Google has decided to take drastic measures.

According to Google, all Google's services will drop support for older browsers from August 1st. This will start with the loss of the certain features, and it will move towards the loss of entire web services. Google wants to take full advantage of HTML5 and CSS3 technology and since older browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Safari 3, Firefox 3.5 and their predecessor cannot handle these technologies, Google decided to simply drop the support for those browsers. As far as we know, Google won't program their services not to work with older browsers, instead, Google won't test its services on them, and it will focus on newer browsers and technologies in the future.

Google has decided to cut support for older browsers, so if one day you find yourself unable to use your Gmail with your current browser, you'll know what needs to be done.

We're all waiting for the next gen Nintendo console, and if you're eager to find out more about it, you'll be pleased to know that Nintendo has unveiled the Wii U's new controller at this year's E3 press conference.

Looking particularly impressive, the Nintendo Wii U controller will come with a 6.2-inch touchscreen and it will provide a tablet-like experience to its users. In addition, this controller has two analog circle pads, D-pad, standard set of buttons and triggers, microphone, speakers, accelerometer, gyroscope, home and plus and minus buttons.

The touchscreen works pretty well, but one thing that we must mention is the ability to beam video directly between TV and vice versa. According to Nintendo, data is transmitted wirelessly without latency, so you can enjoy smooth gameplay experience at all times. Of course, you can use Wii U's controller in a similar way as Wii Remote thanks to the motion controls, though it will no doubt be substantially heavier.

The Wii U controller sounds amazing, the console itself is scheduled for release in 2012 sometime between April and December, we can't wait to see it available on the market.

While they weren't technically the first to do it, Firemint's Real Racing 2 HD [$9.99] was the first game to officially support full screen 1080p TV-Out on the iPad 2. After the iPad 2 dropped, it was discovered that a few other games also supported this already, but more of by chance and not necessarily as a specified feature. Now Real Racing 2 HD is making sure its the first game to announce support for one of the new features revealed for iOS 5 at Monday's keynote.

When iOS 5 is released sometime this Fall, Real Racing 2 HD will support fully wireless TV-Out via the iPad 2 and AirPlay Mirroring with an Apple TV. Essentially, it will perform the same function as the TV-Out feature did using an HDMI cable plugged directly into your TV but completely wirelessly, though it won't be displayed in full 1080p. It will still run in full screen, but the maximum resolution AirPlay Mirroring can output is 720p. However, that is a very small price to pay to be able to play Real Racing 2 HD on a TV using the iPad 2 as a controller and having it be completely wireless.

In short: I want this for every game ever. The Real Racing franchise has typically been at the forefront of adopting new and interesting features in iOS, and I really hope others follow suit. In fact, AirPlay Mirroring combined with gaming is incredibly similar to what Nintendo is touting as a huge feature of their new Wii U console that was unveiled at E3 yesterday. This gives even more credence to the talk that Apple is now a firm player in the console gaming market with AirPlay Mirroring as they increasingly try to invade the living room space.

I personally love it, and although there are many things the home consoles offer that iOS doesn't, I absolutely feel there is room for my iPad 2 as a viable option when deciding what to play on my TV at home. We'll keep a close eye on how this feature is utilized in other games too as we near the release of iOS 5 later this year.

htc sensation

Having ticked our fancies with new versions of the Wildfire and Desire, HTC has now released what can be considered the 'real deal' the dual-core Sensation. We've had some hands-on time with this stupendous superphone in order to bring you some early impressions. Is this a handset capable of rivaling the sublime Samsung Galaxy S II, and can it help HTC reclaim its crown as Android's top dog?

htc sensation

From a purely physical standpoint, the Sensation feels very traditional. It borrows design elements from the original Desire, Nexus One and the more recent Desire S and Wildfire S. The rounded body and mixture of metal and rubber is pleasing, and the device rests in the palm more comfortably than the Desire HD despite having similar proportions and the same 4.3-inch screen.

htc sensation

Speaking of which, the Sensation's display is based on Super LCD technology, so it loses out to the Galaxy S II's Super AMOLED screen in terms of brightness. Dark areas are also deeper and more impressive on Samsung's phone, but we're not grumbling the Sensation still offers a fantastic viewing experience.

htc sensation

htc sensation

The phone comes with HTC's Sense 3.0 user interface, which offers the usual collection of widgets and shortcuts. What's new this time around is more impressive transition animations when you move between home screens each element of the interface is rendered in 3D, making for a alluring visual spectacle.

htc sensation

One of the most significant additions is HTC Watch, which mimics Google's recently-announced movie-streaming service. Although we've not had chance to get to grips with it yet, the quality of the playback is amazing not doubt thanks to the 1.2GHz dual-core CPU which beats at the heart of the phone.

htc sensation

Thanks to this raw power, the Sensation makes short work of running applications and games, and when you consider that many recently-launched handsets such as Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play and HTC's own Desire S are lumbered with single-core 1GHz chips, the Sensation should be on the cutting edge for the majority of 2011.

htc sensation

Another unique aspect of the phone is the casing; while it initially appears to have the same uni-body construction as the HTC Legend, when you come to insert your SIM you realise that the handset is separated into two parts the entire back of the phone wraps around the edges, and lifts off to reveal some delicate-looking innards. Although it feels strange to be handling such such a bare-looking device, the upshot is that there's no creaky casing to contend with. When the back is fixed to the phone itself, it creates a reassuringly solid-feeling phone.

htc sensation

With 1080p video recording and HDMI-out capability included (so long as you invest in the appropriate adapter), the Sensation is geared up for HD viewing and media sharing. Although the phone's small camera lens obviously isn't going to capture Hollywood-style films, the HD videos you create should hold up pretty well when played through your TV. The Sensation also comes with DLNA capability, allowing you to wirelessly stream content to any compatible device (such as your TV, Hi-Fi or PS3 games console).

htc sensation

htc sensation

The Sensation is HTC's big chance to hold back the advances made by rivals such as LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson, and thanks to its dual-core power and the typically slick HTC Sense UI, we think it might just be the phone to do it.
