During an interview on TWiT podcast Windows Weekly, Director of Windows Phone 7 Brandon Watson said that Windows Phone 7 will feature tethering, and it's up to the carriers to allow it, but now we have a whole different story. Microsoft spokesperson is saying that Mr.Watson was totally wrong, and there is " No Tethering feature in Windows Phone 7?. So it means that Windows phone 7 devices will miss the tethering, which is a very important feature. Lot of new devices are now coming with tethering feature i.e EVO 4G, Samsung Galaxy S. So I think that's a deal breaker for WP7, what do you people say?

Last month, Handmark released the 3D object manipulation puzzler Blaze: Fire Puzzle for both the iPhone [link] and the iPad [link]. We didn't cover the title at the time, but I've spent a good bit of time with the title this weekend and have had a pretty good time of it.

The first thing you might notice upon seeing our gameplay video or trying your hand at the title is its similarity to Zen Bound. Indeed, the game is basically Zen Bound, but with fire and candles instead of a paint-soaked rope (and classical tunes instead of ambient audioscapes accentuated with plucks of the koto). It's a definite derivative title, but given the ridiculous amount of time I've played the Zen Bounds, it's an interesting variation on what's undisputedly Secret Exit's formula.

Blaze takes you through 45 different candle-adorned 3D objects with the objective of lighting every single candle and fast. This is done by way of touch controls one finger to twist, two fingers to rotate just like Zen Bound or, in the case of the iPhone 4, using the integrated gyroscope if you choose. (I recommend not choosing, though it's a far inferior method of manipulation as compared to straight-up touch.) You start off with but one of the many candles on your object lit. From there, the goal is to manipulate the object such that all candles become lit, with a gold medal achieved for completing the task in a stated (and short) number of seconds. The physics of fire-lights-what's-above is an interesting twist (ugh…) on the Zen Bound formula.

The iPhone version of Blaze utilizes the Retina display for high resolution rendering, while the iPad version takes full advantage of its screen real estate. Both versions feature social networking integration with OpenFeint, Twitter, and Facebook.

So, if you're a seasoned Zen Bound veteran, is this game for you? I consider myself a member of that camp and have had a great time with Blaze. If you're all wet behind the ears and have clocked zero time behind either title…and have to choose just one, I would probably urge you towards Zen Bound, as it feels a bit more polished, more refined but the enjoyability of both titles is quite similar.

Anyone on the fence can try out the limited, free version of the game for both devices:

The Apple iPhone 4 has been launched in China by Chinese Operator China Unicom. It went on sale at 4 Apple Stores in China including the stores and Beijing and Shanghai The price of the unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 are pretty high though.

16GB 4999 yuan or 746 USD approx

32GB 5999 yuan or 849 USD approx

The contract-free phones are available only at the Apple stores and customers buying it at China Unicom stores should sign up for a 2 year contract.

Here is a video from IDG which shows the crowds in the Chinese Apple Stores.

China is dominated my Nokia , Samsung , Sony Ericsson and Motorola and Apple is definitely going to increase it's market share with the iPhone 4 . The iPhone 3GS sales were poor though.

After the launch of Ferrari Editionfrom H4 series Hasselblad has come up with some more amazing news. Those who are fans of V-system cameras can now enjoy the comfort of the CFV-50 digital back.
The hasselblad CFV-50 captures at 50 MP and it self corrects for barrel distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration and plenty of other effects that a normal film system would not otherwise be able to catch. It will cost the Hasselblad fans a sum of around 11,990 euros.

To add to the above costly pricing, Hasselblad has announced that it is actively working on its 200 megapixel camera which it will be announced by early 2011. Company product development lead Peter Stig-Nielsen explained to CNET and others at Photokina that it would be an improvement of the H4D-50 multi shot that moves the pixels just half a step away versus the full shifts of today but produces four times as many pixels.

Upon successful testing, Hasselblad plans to release the new ultra-resolution capture mode for H4D-50MS cameras by early 2011. All current H4D-50MS cameras will be offered this new capture mode straight from the factory, by using a new calibration and firmware upgrade, at a fee to be announced soon.

Happily for the sports fans out there, there's no lack of full-featured football / soccer titles in the App Store. And, that list grew by one this morning when Gameloft released Real Soccer 2011 [App Store], the latest iteration in their mobile soccer series, featuring revamped graphics targeting the iPhone 4's Retina display.

The game features 350 teams across 14 leagues (compared to 245 teams and 8 leagues in RS 2010), with the licensed names of nearly all real-life players. A History Mode sets up notable games of the past for the player to jump in and play and, like Real Soccer 2010 before it, the game features WiFi and Bluetooth multiplayer play modes, as well. The ability to upload memorable replays directly to YouTube from within the app has also been maintained in this release.

While I've only spent a very brief time with the game as yet, the detail afforded the playfield by the iPhone 4's high resolution display is impressive. While Real Soccer 2010 received Retina display support in a recent update, this latest from Gameloft features reworked graphics created using motion capture technology for enhanced realism, the studio indicates.

It is not just Photokina which has become the default destination for camera makers to launch their new cameras for the past few days. There are organizations that are launching some amazing new cameras without even taking the advantage of Photokina media attraction. Leaf Aptus-II 12 is one such super attractive camera which has recently been made public but not at Photokina.

There's no question that more megapixels in an image sensor offers significantly higher detail and larger output sizes," said Tim Grey, photographer, author, and respected digital imaging expert. "While there are software products that can enhance and enlarge a photo, the result will never truly be more information than was captured by the image sensor. For photographers who need maximum detail and the potential for particularly large print sizes, medium format digital backs represent ideal tools."

The Leaf Aptus-II 12 can bear up to 80 MP of imaging data with the help of its 53.7mm x 40.3mm x CCD sensor. The 3.5 inches touchscreen on its back does its job pretty well. The ISO range for this box is between 80 to 800 with 0.6 fps capture rate. Something which can leave you astonished as the max file size of an image can be as large as 480 MB.

I was recently invited to the pre-launch of the Nokia N8 in the Middle East, which took place in Dubai, and while it was my first time handling the N8 and I came away pretty impressed, one thing I wanted to do was be able to test the camera. We were in Dubai, Nokia was launching a 12MP cameraphone, and they didn't think it'd be smart to give us each an N8 to take photos, you know, to convince us of how cool their phone is! They only had 4 or 5 N8s for us to test, hooked to an alarm-triggered table, inside the conference walls, with awkward lights around them. Not cool. Especially when you think that with Xenon flash and the largest sensor for a cameraphone, the N8 is basically made for night photography.

Lucky for me though, I was able to snatch one prototype from a Nokian (insert evil laugh) and get loose around Dubai for a few minutes before having to hand it back reluctantly, not forgetting, obviously, to bluetooth the images I took over to my N97 Mini.

You can see the results below, with Burj Khalifa (the tallest man-made structure in the world), the Dubai Marina Walk, and the area around the Dubai Media One Hotel. Now keep in mind, this is a prototype, it wasn't running firmware PR1.0, and apparently I was using the wide-angle 9MP resolution not the 12MP one. I was also tinkering with the settings every 3 seconds, using Night Mode sometimes, changing the ISO settings, turning the Flash on and off, using Sports Mode for the 3rd & 4th photo from inside the bus… Basically, I was playing and I'm not a pro-photographer. So the quality of the results will vary. Note: click on the thumbnails for the full-resolution image.

For the record, the ice cream in the last image was definitely not as tasty as the N8 makes it look like. I wish. When I showed it to the journalists next to me, we had a long debate over how well the N8 would do for false marketing ;) Oh and for comparison's sake, this is one image I took of Burj Khalifa with my Kodak V1273 12MP digital camera, with Auto settings.

I won't make any judgment call based on a prototype device or my less than average photography skills, but I'll say that for my own usage, something like the N8's camera is way WAY more than enough for night photography. What do you think?

Note: This post is cross-published on The Dotsisx Blog.
