In many of my posts about the Nokia E7, ever since I received my trial unit, I kept saying that "I don't get it". I don't understand the purpose of the E7 or who will buy it or for what reason. The rationale behind my thought was that in terms of Symbian competition, the Nokia N8 offers a much more complete package, while in terms of QWERTY/Business competition, there are plenty of better options with Android on board.

However, saying something is not like proving it in an objective comparison of specs, so given that I have an N8, E7 and HTC Desire Z in my hands, I set out to take some pictures of all of them for you, and to do a specifications comparison table.

In the comparison table below, I placed the Nokia E7 in the middle so you can easily spot the differences between it and the Nokia N8 on one side and the HTC Desire Z on the other side. I highlighted the areas where a device is easily a winner (sometimes there are two winners in a category), and I left some others without picking one as they are more subjective and depend on every person's preferences.

However, specification sheets only tell you half the story. Nothing compares to actually seeing, holding and using a device, as there are a lot of features that shine in that light, and a lot that feel irrelevant.

The three devices rank on the "big" scale, compared to what we considered smartphones 2 years ago. The N8 (hardware tour) is the smallest and lightest of the bunch, it's also the most drop-proof with its simple form factor. The Desire Z (hardware tour) is the thickest and the least "solid", it's quite solid, but not as much as the other two. The E7 (hardware tour) is taller and wider than the Desire Z, in order to accommodate the tilting form factor and the 4? screen. It's incredibly well built.

Screen-wise, the Nokia N8 packs nothing really special. The E7 has that awesome 4? Clear Black Display that shines indoors and is awesome in direct sunlight. The HTC Desire Z has an awesome resolution and colors that pop indoors, however get outside and the screen will be a harder to read in direct sunlight.

For example, simply tilting the 3 devices a bit, shows how clear the Nokia E7's display remains, and how the Desire Z is affected by surrounding light.

Flip those phones over, and you see the winning point of the N8: it's unrivaled 12MP Carl Zeiss camera with Xenon Flash. The Desire Z shows a good enough 5MP camera, but a great strength in its removable battery: you can purchase a spare battery and keep it with you when the main one dies for example. The E7, well, it has a fixed-focus (read: non-autofocus) camera and a non-removable battery. Slayed on both fronts!

The E7 gets back a winning point with its transformer form factor. Where the N8 is a simple candybar, and the Desire Z features a fancy-named Z-hinge that eventually just settles flat on top of the keyboard, the E7 has an awesome swiveling screen, that is solidly built and that rises to face you a bit like a computer.

As you see, my theory was quite right. If you're a Symbian fan, the N8 is a more robust and complete choice, especially with its camera, and if you're a QWERTY fan, the HTC Desire Z (and many other Android QWERTY devices really), is a better choice than the E7.

The only person I can see getting excited about the E7 is the Symbian + Qwerty fan, however, I can't help but feel their pain, given the compromises they will have to make. No great camera, no FM transmitter, no MicroSD slot, compared to the N8. No removable battery, no more RAM, none of the great software features of Android or the vast array of third-party applications for office and productivity use that the Market offers, compared to the Desire Z. Yes, it's a big compromise on both aspects.

Are you interested in getting the E7? Or still doubting whether to purchase it or go a safer route with another device, N8, Desire Z, or otherwise?

Okay Apple fans, hold your breath. Apple have officially announced that the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference is from June 6th to June 10th. And it's also that time of the year when Apple announces the new iPhone but The Loop is saying that there will be no new iPhone. Well, it's just a rumor so we shouldn't trust it. Apple aim is to "unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS" at the event. It looks like Apple will launch the newer version of their operating systems. What I feel is that Apple is also buckling up to launch a new iPhone. As the competition is getting tighter and tighter, it's right time for Apple to launch the new iPhone and break the market share of other operating systems. But I am also feeling that Apple would delay it because Verizon just launched the iPhone and it's too early for them. May be Apple will launch the iPhone 5 and make it exclusive to AT&T only and then after few months, Verizon can launch it, just like they did with the iPhone 4.

Well people, only Apple knows the real deal. As the event is still two months away, a lot of things can happen. May be this time, someone will again left an iPhone in a bar like last year. So everyone, stay tuned this and tell us is it the right time for Apple to launch an iPhone 5?

Even though you may not be familiar with the name Rooster Teeth, I can't imagine there are many gamers out there who haven't at least heard of Red vs. Blue. If you you're among the uninitiated, it's a shockingly popular series of machinima videos that utilize in-game footage of Halo combined with voiceovers. The humor of Red vs. Blue usually involves parodies of science fiction movies, military life, and first person shooters. You don't even really have to particularly like Halo to enjoy it.

Rooster Teeth also has a fair share of funny short clips called RT Shorts. The latest short is titled Fight or Flight A War to End All Wars and turns Angry Birds in to a Michael Bay directed blockbuster summer action film:

"Don't you ever call it 'just a slingshot!'"

In the beginning of this new year, LG shocked everyone by announcing the first phone with Tegra 2 processor, which is known as the LG Optimus 2x (read our review). LG is one of the leading mobile phone companies in the world. At the MWC, LG also announced their first ever 3D phone and tablet. Now LG is planning to bring a new smartphone and it will be something big because it's known as LG Optimus Big.

The phone is rumored to have a 4.3 inch Nova display and a single-core processor. Well, I don't believe the single-core thing because almost all the new LG smartphones are running on a dual-core processor; anyway it's a rumor so we should wait for some official words. The image above is showing it why it's known as Optimus Big. As you can see the phone is really big as compared to the Apple iPhone 3G/3GS. It's reported that it will be launched in S.Korea by LG Telecom next month where it will be known as LG U+. Well, at the moment we don't know if LG is planning to launch this phone outside S.Korea, but we hope that it will hit other countries too because LG fans are all over the world. So after checking out the image above, do you think the phone is big enough to fulfill your need, or is it too big?

While I haven't yet been totally sucked in to Hot Springs Story [$3.99 / Free], I've spent entire days of my life playing Game Dev Story [$3.99 / Free]. Now, admittedly, I wasn't totally engrossed in Hot Springs Story because I'm exponentially more interested in video games than I am maintaining a spa, but what if you threw science fiction in to the mix? Then I'd really be in trouble.

A few hours ago, the guys from War Balloon Games revealed Star Command on Reddit. I'd paraphrase what the game is about, but their succinct description is perfect for getting any simulation fan excited:

Players can build their vessel in their own image if you prefer a scientific, peace oriented game style you can build long rang scanners and diplomatic facilities to encourage peace and information exchange. Players more focused on settling disputes through force can build their Starship with multiple weapon bays and reinforced hull to absorb heavy damage.

Throughout the game players can hire and manage their crew. Crew members have a variety of skill sets and each of these comes into play when performing tasks on board like research, tactical, engineering and more. Crew members gain new skills as the game progresses making them more and more valuable.

Players can explore the universe, discovering black holes, nebula's, new planets and eventually make contact with new races. Diplomacy comes into play as some species are naturally drawn to combat while others may be more willing to join you even exchanging officers on your crew.

A number of screenshots have also been released, revealing some radical looking pixel art:

The developer is actively answering questions on Reddit and made a couple interesting comments. Game Dev Story actually served as the catalyst for the project, proving that there was actually a market for in-depth simulation games. Also, while there isn't any multiplayer planned for this version of the game, the developers seem open for some kind of potential sequel where it would be considered. (Assuming the original sells, of course.)

Star Command is scheduled for release sometime this summer, and I can't wait. I should probably make plans to clear my calendar of any and all obligations once I hear when it will actually hit the App Store. I'm thinking this might actually be worse for my personal and professional life than Game Dev Story, as horrifying as that is to actually think.

Trenches [99] has had an impressive history on the App Store since our initial preview of the game. Originally released on Christmas Eve in 2009, Trenches was soon joined by the not-quite-a-lite version Trenches Boot Camp [Free]. A while later, Stenches: A Zombie Tale of Trenches [99] joined the fray, effectively turning Trenches in to a game franchise worthy of spinoffs and pseudo-sequels.

Later, an impressive online multiplayer mode was added, fully utilizing both Game Center and voice chat. Check out the Trenches online multiplayer trailer:

The recently released Trenches Free For All [Free] features everything the full version of Trenches is capable of, including online multiplayer. The catch? A small in-game ad. Other than that, there's absolutely no restrictions of any kind. If you get tired of the ad, you can always spring for the full version of the game for a buck. If you download any version of the game and are looking for people to play with, swing by the thread on our forums where all things Trenches including strategy and online matchmaking is being discussed.

All over the world Microsoft Kinect is in big hype. Not only is it the first interactive video game in which you do not need a controller for, but it also can be educational. 10 Million Kinects have been sold throughout the world, but also many different hacks have come out for it that can enhance the ability of the Kinect.

Currently a group of teachers at an elementary school in South Africa are experimenting and using the Kinect to teach students English while they play the game. A teacher says that "most students are too shy to speak up in class, but with Kinect they seem to have no problem yelling out English words to their classmates.

In Japan the Nintendo DS has been used to teach and in the United States and iPads have been used in classrooms to learn a new concept, why shouldn't the Kinect be used in certain situations where it can be educational?

Back in November, Japanese developer CAVE took their expertise in manic shooters and combined it with the dual-stick control scheme that suits touch screens so well to come up with Mushihimesama Bug Panic [$4.99/Lite]. The result was an intense dual-stick shooter with an interesting lock-on offensive mechanic, loads of enemies to kill, and dozens of bullets to avoid. We really enjoyed Mushihimesama Bug Panic in our original review, and its first update improved the experience even more.

Last month during a press event where CAVE announced a port of Deathsmiles for iOS, they also announced that Mushihimesama Bug Panic would be receiving a multiplayer update titled Bug Battle in the near future. Over the weekend, the Bug Battle update became available for download, and after taking the new mode for a spin I can say it's an incredibly fun addition to an already fantastic game.

Bug Battle uses Bluetooth to connect to a friend locally or Game Center to connect to a player over 3g or WiFi for head-to-head competition. There are 5 multiplayer maps which are unlocked by completing worlds from Adventure mode. Each player destroys the bugs that appear on their screen and collects the amber gems left behind, which work towards filling up an attack gauge on the side of the screen.

Tapping this attack gauge when filled releases bug nests on your opponent, and increases your energy meter at the top of the screen. The attack gauge can be filled several times over, with each level unleashing a greater number of bug nests on your enemy, culminating in a maxed out gauge which will send them a humongous boss character to their screen. Play continues in this hectic fashion until time runs out, and whichever player holds more of the energy meter is deemed the winner.

As always, CAVE has put together a lengthy video detailing their latest update. The Bug Battle multiplayer information starts at the 1:08 mark:

The Bug Battle mode works really well, and despite me being horrible at it there's no issues with connecting or lag in my experience. The "send crap over to your opponent for them to deal with" factor is used to great effect here, similar to multiplayer bouts in Tetris or Puzzle Fighter style games, and makes for a rewarding competitive experience. CAVE has updated the lite version of Mushihimesama Bug Panic to include the first map of Bug Battle to give players a taste of the multiplayer experience.

Our forum users have been having a blast with the new Bug Battle mode, so make sure to update your game or give the lite version a download to checkout the new multiplayer experience in Mushihimesama Bug Panic.

Firemint's new game Real racing HD for the iPad 2 is one of the first games for the Apple iPad 2 to come in 1080P without having to do any up scaling when plugged into your HD television using HDMI cables.

The iPad 2 goes out at a 1024768 resolution for the screen, the mirrored video on your HDTV would be the same resolution which means you would have black bars on the left and right side of the screen like a frame.

Real Racing HD can run full screen at 19201080 when attached to an external display without the frame around the edges on your TV, Firemint came up with this and gives credit to Apple's amazing graphics card inside. This game shows how great iOS devices can be for gaming, and worth while to own. Below is an attached video that you can watch to see the game play a bit, in split screen.

Not a while ago, we wrote about a new app that could make text input a lot simpler and faster on your cellphone. In case you don't remember, that app is called SnapKeys 2i, and today we have some additional information about it.

As you might know, SnapKeys 2i should make text input a lot faster and simpler than before, and unlike other apps, SnapKeys 2i doesn't use an on screen keyboard that covers half of your screen. As for SnapKeys, they have explained how their app works on this year's CTIA. SnapKeys 2i uses onscreen keyboard that is divided into four buttons, and each button represents a certain type of character, so it doesn't take too much screen space.

The reason why SnapKeys 2i is so fast is that it utilises clever algorithms and comprehensive dictionaries, so it can predicts what word you're typing.

According to SnapKeys, this app has 99% accuracy and it's so simple to use that even a 5th grader can use it. As for availability, we should see SnapKeys 2i on Android, Windows Phone 7 and iOS platforms, though so far, no information about its pricing is available.
