You all know that PSN has been down for several days now, and Sony is blaming hackers for this outage, but is that the truth? According to a different source, PSN has been down in order to prevent piracy, and not due to hackers' attack.

Apparently, hackers have found a way to download PSN content for free, so Sony had to intervene and take PSN down. According to the speculations, there's a new hacked custom firmware that allows hackers to download PSN content for free. This firmware is called Rebug and it gives your console the functionality of a developer PlayStation 3 console, in other words, you'd be able to use your console to download PSN content for free with false credit card numbers. That way, hackers have managed to trick the PSN to recognize them as a part of developer team, and since Sony's developing team doesn't have to get checked, they have gained full access to PSN content.

So far, no official disclosure from Sony is available, so we can only guess what's going on at PSN.
