Since the release of SSDs, techies, Windows users, and bloggers have been bashing Apple for not including support for the TRIM command in OS X. The TRIM command allows operating systems to mark sections of SSDs for deletion.

Many analysts say that there is no need for TRIM because of a custom vendor-supplied garbage collection mechanism in the underlying operating system; others claim that without TRIM support you can't even use an SSD. Frankly, I'm sick of the debate as people have been using SSDs in their Macs for several years now without issue.

Finally the discussion can cease now that the engineers in Cupertino have decided that the time has come to include TRIM support in the 10.6.6 release of Snow Leopard. However, don't get too excited yet as rumor has it only Apple-bundled drives will be supported for now.
