Looks like Apple is just heating up the mobile phone war in India. After launching the iPhone 4 in India recently , it has now launched the 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS in the country. BGR is reporting that the 3GS has been launched for Rs.19990. Apple has always been blamed for making the iPhone a costly affair in India and look like all that is going to change. The price of the 8GB 3GS iPhone might send a shiver down the spine of Nokia and Samsung who pretty much dominate the category.
Just bear in mind that the 3GS is about 2 years old and does not have all the bells and whistles of the iPhone 4 , but it's still an iPhone. The 3GS was actually launched last year in India in July and prices were set at 32K for a 16gig version and 39K for a 32gig version.8GB is pretty less if you plan to do heavy gaming or load a lot of movies. The space available to the user is around 7GB.
UPDATE: We are also hearing from our sources that it's going to be sold factory unlocked and stocks are already available.
Check out our review of the 3GS.
